Finding ssh for your computer:
The original ssh is freeware software, so you can download it from the
Internet for a variety of platforms (e.g., unix and PC). Commercial
programs exist and tend to have better support. This page may help
you find an ssh client (or server) for your system. If you have
additional information, please let us know so that we can add it for
the benefit of other users.
- We have a useful collection of notes and executables related to
using ssh on all common platforms. It is located in
/apps/sysadmin/ssh_local. Look there for anything that this page
doesn't answer.
- As of August 30, 2002 the latest version of ssh for Windows now
has the 2 window version of ftp the way WS_FTP does it. The ftp site
is at ftp://ftp.ssh.com/pub/ssh/ and
the current version is SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.0.exe. This version
is considered by some to be far superior to others listed below.
- A nice commerical ssh package is available from Data Fellows. We have the Mac
version for ARL; mail consult if you can't find it. They also have
versions for the PC. You can download their trial version and use it
for 30 days. It costs less than $100 and is half price for
educational use (please don't take my word on this!).
- We have a freeware version for Win32 PCs (95/98/NT/2000). You can download the self-extracting zip file.
- For all of the unix clients in the lab, we are using freeware
that we have downloaded from here. We use the 3des
cypher type which is public domain.
- For Red Hat Linux/i386, go to
http://ftp.zedz.net/redhat/ssh.html
and download what you need. This may work for other Linux's
and other platforms.
